Martin J. Sobol:  The founder of Sobol & Sobol, Mr. Sobol has expertise in the full spectrum of labor and employment law issues.  Mr. Sobol began his career with the National Labor Relations Board and later went on to chair the labor and employment departments of several large prominent Philadelphia law firms before starting his own practice.  Mr. Sobol is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, and has been admitted in the United States Supreme Court, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.  He received his B.A. from Penn State University, and his J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law. For the past 25 years, Mr. Sobol has been nominated by his peers with the highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards.

Daniel J. Sobol:  The younger Mr. Sobol began his career at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison, LLP.  Mr. Sobol represents employers in labor matters before the National Labor Relations Board, including unfair labor practice charges, representation matters, and in labor negotiations. He also represents management in employment matters and in matters arising under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA). Mr. Sobol is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, and has been admitted in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the District of New Jersey, the Southern District of New York and the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He received his B.A. from Temple University, and his J.D. from Columbia Law School. In 2014, Mr. Sobol was named as a 'Rising Star' by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers.

Barry R. Elson:  A recent addition to the firm in an Of Counsel capacity is Barry R. Elson. Mr. Elson began his career performing internal labor relations for the Board and General Counsel of the National Labor Relations Board (“NLRB”) as employers in dealing with their own employees. After working as an attorney in the Los Angeles and Philadelphia regional offices of the NLRB and the General Counsel’s division of advice in Washington, D.C., he entered private practice in 1978, with a primary concentration in labor and employment law and the remainder in civil litigation. Over the years Mr. Elson’s representation has regularly involved health care, manufacturing and service businesses, profit and not-for-profit, public and private sectors, unionized and non-union entities as well as the representation of lawyers and law firms. Mr. Elson is licensed to practice in the United States Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Mr. Elson earned his Bachelor of Science degree in history at New York University and his juris doctorate from the George Washington University. Mr. Elson has been named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer for the last several consecutive years and is a Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.

Whitney M. Kummerow: Ms. Kummerow joined the firm after spending two years at the U.S. Department of Labor. She represents and counsels employers in various aspects of labor and employment law. Ms. Kummerow is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She received her B.S. from Syracuse University, and her J.D. from the Earle Mack School of Law at Drexel University, where she graduated magna cum laude and served as Executive Editor of Notes on the Drexel Law Review. Ms. Kummerow’s case study, Finding Opportunity While Meeting Needs: The Frankford Special Services District, has been published in Vol. III (Fall 2010) of the Drexel Law Review.

Benjamin R. Patchen: Mr. Patchen joined the firm after serving as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Michael E. Erdos at the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. He represents and counsels employers in various aspects of labor and employment law. Mr. Patchen is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He received his B.S. from Pennsylvania State University and his J.D., cum laude, from Temple University Beasley School of Law. During law school, Mr. Patchen worked as a judicial intern to the Honorable Cynthia M. Rufe, a United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Mr. Patchen gained courtroom experience as a certified legal intern for the Defender Association of Philadelphia and worked as a law clerk at civil litigation firms during law school.
